Personalized Vaccination Schedules Tailored to Your Pet’s Needs
Pet Vaccinations in Maywood
Just as we vaccinate ourselves to prevent or lessen the effects of serious diseases and illnesses, vaccinations are equally as important to preserve our pets’ health. At The Maywood Veterinary Clinic, our veterinarians will work with you to determine an individualized vaccination plan depending on your pet’s lifestyle, age, and health needs. We will also discuss how often these vaccinations need to be administered.
If your pet is due for vaccinations, or you’d like more information about which ones we offer, give us a call at (201) 368-0607 or contact us online.
Vaccinations for Dogs
According to New Jersey state law, all dogs must receive rabies vaccinations. We will administer your pet’s first rabies vaccine, which is good for one year, and you will then need to bring your pet in for a follow-up vaccine every three years.
All dogs in our care must receive the distemper and parvovirus (DHPP) vaccination.
Depending on your dog’s age, lifestyle, and health status, our veterinarians might recommend the following vaccinations:
- Lyme disease
- Bordetella
- Leptospirosis
- Canine influenza
Vaccinations for Cats
Just like dogs, New Jersey state law requires that all cats must be vaccinated for rabies. Our veterinarians also administer the FVRCP (distemper combination) vaccination to all cats in our care. Sometimes we suggest that cats receive the feline leukemia vaccination, especially if they tend to go outdoors.
Vaccinations for Ferrets
Any ferret in our care must receive vaccinations for purvac distemper and rabies. However, because ferrets tend to have strong reactions to vaccines, we only administer one per visit.
What About My Pocket Pet?
At this time, we do not currently vaccinate rabbits, mice, rats, chinchillas, or other pocket pets because there are no vaccinations currently in use or licensed for them.
